Division 2 Football Final St. Aidan’s vs Parteen National School.

St. Aidan’s and  Parteen National schools played out a thrilling boys Division 2 football final in Clonlara on Weds. 19th.
Played on a beautiful pitch under a clear blue sky the quality of football did not disappoint the hundreds of supporters at the match from both sides.
At half time the score was 1 goal and 5 points to 1 – 2 in favour of the Shannon boys who had finished the half the stronger. The gap was closed to one point soon after half time before St Aidan’s got the decisive goal and 2 more points.
Though Parteen battled hard and got another point the final score was 2-7 to 1-5 in favour of St. Aidan’s
Ruari Lane in goal and David O Regan in defence made some excellent interventions in the first half for Parteen. The St. Aidan’s defence with Liam  and Brian Murphy, Gavin Carrig, Aaron Duggan, Ogie Harrington and Cody Waller were terrific throughout the game as was goalie Adam Sexton, Darragh O’Neill also worked tireless in mid field throughout the game.
The Parteen goal was scored by Scott Quilligan and the St. Aidan’s goal scores were Ben O Neill (capt) and Jamie Halpin. Ben O Neill also had 3 further points and Adam Moloney got 2 pts. Tom Butler and Daithi Lohan scored a point each for the winners. For Parteen captain Sean Connolly also led well and contributed 4 well taken points. Adam Kennedy capped a fine performance with a point of his own. Both teams acquitted themselves well on the day and the result was in doubt right up to the final whistle.
The cup was presented by Mr John O Byrne of Cumann na MBunscoile after the game and he complimented both teams for the high standard game they produced.

We have been very busy on the sporting front in the school for the last few weeks!

Our boys Gaelic Football team have been magnificent in achieving a place in the Division two Gaelic Football final which will be played in the coming weeks. We had great wins over Broadford and O’ Callaghans Mills in the first two games however we narrowly lost to Parteen in the next game. It was then all down to a do or die match against Cratloe. Win and we were through to the simi – final lose and we were out! What a performance the boys gave of determination, power and skill to win by eight points. We were in the simi-final where we took on Ballyea. In difficult conditions we won on a scoreline of 1 -11 to 2 – 1 with Adam Moloney getting the all important goal. The boys have shown what heart, determination and teamwork can achieve on reaching the final and hopefully they can make up for the lose to the previous to Parteen in the final.   Best of luck to them and hopefully everyone will be out to cheer them on.

On Friday the 17th of October a team of ten sixth class girls and boys were victorious in the Shannon primary school Futsal Blitz. They were victorious over St. Tola’s after extra time on a score line of 1-0. Congratulations to all involved.
